So far, 2016 has been an amazing year for music, and boss chicks everywhere are making sure that they leave their mark. We rounded up a list of songs released this year that will bring out your inner rebel, your inner boss chick, and leave you ready to go out and conquer the world! Featuring Bibi Bourelly, K. Michelle, and even Queen B, here is a rundown of our favorite boss chick anthems of 2016.
"I'm just here for business, I'm running down and I'm with it."10. Cardi B – ForevaWe're kicking this list off with America's favorite ratchet sweetheart, Cardi B. She did not come to play games, and who knew she had bars?! Cardi B wants you to keep her name out of your mouth, because if a chick beef with her, they gon beef foreva.
"You still gon talk and that's a shame, But a hoe gon be a hoe and a lame gon be a lame."9. Trina – F BoyThe reigning Queen of Miami, Trina blessed us with another anthem this year and this one isn't for the dainty or weak-hearted. She reminisces about her relationship with a f*** boy and proceeds to draggg him throughout the entire song. Trina taught us don't cry about a bad relationship. Write a song about it, embarass him, and move on. Thank you Trina.
"I feel like Uma Thurman in Kill Bill."8. K. Michelle – MindfulK. Michelle throws her Southern Belle persona out the window on this track and shows us more of her Dirty South attitude. She's not crooning about a jaded lover or heartbreak, she's kicking ass and taking names. Everyone stay back. The track is from her third studio album, More Issues Than Vogue.
"If you're picking up my call, gotta tell you once that I'm in control."7. AlunaGeorge – I’m In ControlAlunaGeorge is demanding that she be in control in her relationship. From beginning to end, she says what she wants, and what it takes to please her. Fellas, take note! The track is from her sophomore album, I Remember.
"I run the game, you just a runner-up."6. Dreezy – SerenaYou probably heard of Dreezy when she released the hit single "Body" earlier this year featuring Jeremih. In Serena, Dreezy is queen of the trap house, and she pays homage with her lyrics to another boss chick, Serena Williams. The track is off her debut album, No Hard Feelings.
"Gold up in my teeth. Taste like money when I speak."5. Kiiara – GoldGold is an elaborately written, elaborately produced, cocky F- you to a careless lover. Kiiara uses her newfound success as the best revenge. The song was released earlier this year as the debut to her low kii savage EP.
"I'm out of the norm since the day I was born. And I put this on life, I won't ever conform."4. Bibi Bourelly – EgoBibi Bourelly burst onto the scene last year when she wrote Rihanna's "Bitch Better Have My Money", one of our favorite boss chick anthems of 2015. Ego is the lead single from her Free the Real Pt. 1 EP, and it is a powerful, unapologetic ballad to self confidence.
"She got them commas and them decimals. She don't gotta give it up cause she professional."3. Beyoncé – 6 InchBeyoncé made waves in the music industry this year when she released the LEMONADE visual album. In 6 Inch, Beyoncé uses stilettos as a symbol of female wealth and power. This song encourages women everywhere to stay on their grind and make that money! And while we can't post the video or song on here because well, TIDAL, we can still post GIFS. So please enjoy Queen B in all her cinematic, boss chick glory.
Six inch heels, she walked in the club like nobody's business Goddamn, she murdered everybody and I was her witness.
She's stacking money, money everywhere she goes You know, pesos out of Mexico De uno, commas and them decimals She don't gotta give it up, she professional
"Didn't they tell you that I was a savage?"2. Rihanna – Needed MeBad Gal Riri dropped one for the female savages off of her "Anti" album. With lyrics like, "Baby don't get it twisted, you was just another n**** on the hit list", it’s basically 3 minutes and 12 seconds of Rihanna serving tea.
Let the record show that this is now the second time Rihanna has used her gun to take care of a problematic man. Damn girl, I see you.
"This is your final warning, you know I give you life."1. Beyoncé – Don’t Hurt YourselfSo nice she made the list twice! If you still haven't heard/seen LEMONADE, you are obviously doing a disservice to yourself. Don't Hurt Yourself tops the list of boss chick anthems in 2016 because it is an empowering, raging, guitar-thrashing anthem. This woman is not one to trifled with. Check out some of the most memorable lyrics below. Oh, and please excuse her French.
Who the f*** do you think I am? You ain't married to no average b*** boy You can watch my fat a** twist boy As I bounce to the next d*** boy.
I am the dragon breathing fire Beautiful man I'm the lion Beautiful man I know you're lying I am not broken, I'm not crying, I'm not crying.
This is your final warning You know I give you life If you try this s**t again You gon lose your wife.
