Last night, Drake dropped his visuals for his latest hit single, “Hotline Bling.” The No. 2 song on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, “Hotline Bling” has served as an ode to the drowning feelings related to watching your ex move on. The 6 god teamed up with iconic music video director, Director X, to produce a fun colorful video filled with voluptuous hotline operator girls and a quirky two-stepping Drake who seemed to be making love to the beat.
The summer smash has been linked to D.R.A.M’s popular hit “Cha Cha” for its striking rhythmic similarities between the two. Drake hasn’t released any comments on the similarities until now in his interview with The FADER. The OVO man compared the situation to multiple artists using a Jamaican ‘riddim’ for their respective songs. D.R.A.M., however, said he felt like he got “jacked.”
One of the hotline girls seen in the video resembles the singing rapper’s YMCMB labelmate Nicki Minaj. Nothing’s for sure but Drake may have been throwing shade to Meek Mill, being caught in suggestive poses with another voluptuous girl (resembling rumored girlfriend Serena Williams) a la his on-stage hug with Minaj at last year’s Hot 97 Summer Jam Concert.
As always, fans (and haters) took to social media to put a little spin on the music video. Gifs, memes and mismatched audio videos flooded Twitter and Instagram last night. Check out a few of our favorites:
May your hotline forever bling,
